Apple Watch Series 3 Is Coming!

A Timepiece

Apple introduced the Apple Watch to the world in 2015. For those unaware of its existence, the Apple Watch is a customizable timepiece for personal expression, a fitness companion, an information gadget and so much more. It’s more than a smartwatch. It is an elegantly engineered piece of wearable technology. The invention of the Apple Watch has connected us to technology in a way like never before. “We’re thrilled with the response to Apple Watch and how it’s changed people’s lives,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer.

In 2016 the Apple Watch Series 1 replaced the original model and Apple Watch Series 2 took its spot in the lead. The Apple Watch Series 2 boasted new features that were not available on the debut watch. Karen Haslam, from MacWorld noted that GPS, a dual-core processor, water-resitance and a brighter display were a “healthy step forward.” Apple’s smartwatch stands apart with its health and fitness tracking tools and trending style. According to IDC and multiple reports, the Apple Watch is officially the world’s best selling smartwatch. The Economic Times wrote, “while the Apple Watch remains a small part of Apple’s overall revenue, Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook said earlier this week it’s the best-selling smartwatch “by a very wide margin.” Sales of the device grew more than 50 percent in the third quarter, Cook added.” So what does that mean? It means we can expect more from the Apple Watch. Innovation is necessary to keep Apple at the top.

We have been hearing a lot about the expected iPhone 8 release in September, but iPhone updates won’t be the only thing on the agenda. Rumor has it Apple will also launch the Apple Watch Series 3. According to Matthew Field of The Telegraph, “The Apple Watch Series 3, as it is rumoured to be called, is expected to feature a host of updates and come with the watchOS 4 smartwatch operating system. For the first time, Apple is rumoured to be working on a 4G version that can connect to the internet without a paired phone.”

Shrouded in secrecy, only Apple knows what will be delivered to us as we watch the announcement in September, but rumors are rampant. There has been constant chatter indicating the newest Apple Watch will be able to operate without a WiFi or Bluetooth connection to an iPhone. What does that mean? In short, you could go for a run with out your phone. Another rumor suggests the Apple Watch 3 will be able to make phone calls. The Telegraph writes that phone calls are highly unlikely, however, “the watch is likely to have a small eSIM that shares an owner’s iPhone mobile number. So it will be able to use the internet on its own.” Expected is the deployment of watchOS 4, the latest operating system for Apple smartwatches. The watchOS 4 operating system offers improved heath and fitness tracking for the wearer as well as peer-to-peer payments. It doesn’t sound like there will be a design change at this time, but there is always that option in the future. For now we wait.

The September Apple event will answer all of our questions. The rumors will be verified or quashed. Maybe the newest Apple Watch won’t even be debuted until Spring 2018. Apple Watch Series 3 is Coming. Only time will answer what and when. Apple Watchers will be watching.
